Yipes Communications, a communications carrier serving businesses with gigabit Ethernet networking technology, has raised $200 million in a round of funding that closed Monday. The company has now raised $291 million since its inception in July 1999.
Yipes' cash infusion is impressive considering the tougher times many start-up technology and communications companies have had raising venture capital money. VCs, skittish after the tumultuous year the stock markets have had, are scrutinizing start-ups more closely. Investors include Intel, Soros Private Equity and several investment banks. Yipes offers network connections with speeds of 1Mbps or up to 1Gbps in 20 markets nationwide.
