Yahoo shakes up board, adds PayPal cofounder Max Levchin
The company injects some Silicon Valley firepower into its board with the addition of Levchin. His arrival coincides with the departure of CEOs from the Weather Channeland Intuit.
Yahoo has just injected its board with a whole lot of Silicon Valley firepower by adding PayPal cofounder Max Levchin.
Also serving as the chairman of boards at Kaggle and Yelp and as a director at Evernote, Levchin is a Silicon Valley all-star. He was PayPal's CTO until eBay bought the payment services company, after which he started the social media company Slide. Levchinsold Slide to Google in 2010, and is now leading HVF, a company that focuses on big data.
His appointment was coupled with the departure of two board members, Weather Channel CEO David Kenny and Intuit CEO Brad Smith. This leaves the board with 11 directors.
Levchin's arrival provides a window into the kind of Yahoo its new CEO Marissa Mayer wants to build. Levchin left Mayer's former company Google late last year.
"Max is someone I've admired throughout my career for his phenomenal sense for great products and keen focus on user experiences," Mayer said in a statement. "I'm confident that his strong product and technology expertise will be a tremendous asset to Yahoo! as we work to transform the world's daily habits."
