As it revs up to go public this week, Yahoo is beefing up its Internet directory with new search engine and information services.
The search engine vendor announced today that it will add four live-feed services--Yahoo Scoreboard, Yahoo Quotes, Yahoo Weather, and Yahoo Whirled News--that give users access to sports scores, stock quotes, weather forecasts, and personalized news feeds. While Yahoo already posts news, stocks, and sports scores on its sites, the company said, the new services will provide more up-to-the-minute updates after they are launched by the end of this week.
Yahoo has tapped ESPN, Reuters, Weathernews International, and Individual Inc. to supply the new information feeds. Yahoo also will start Yahoo People, using a directory from Four11, to let users hunt for other people's email addresses, regular mailing addresses, and Web page locations.
Yahoo is scheduled to become the third Net search engine to go public in two weeks in an hotly anticipated Wall Street debut that analysts say could open as high as $30 per share.
