You only need a webcam and a dream if you want to be the next Adele.

X Factor hopefuls can audition for the 2016 season of the show through Facebook Live, the social network's live-streaming feature, Facebook said Tuesday. Facebook introduced the feature at the end of 2015.

The show will hold preliminary online auditions in closed groups that will allow producers to pick out their favourites and fast track them to sing in front of the judges. The auditions are currently scheduled for June, but hopefuls must go through several rounds of singing in front of producers before they are allowed to serenade Simon Cowell in person.

Facebook Live is the social network's answer to Twitter's live-streaming app Periscope and since its launch has been used extensively by Mark Zuckerberg, the father of Facebook, to present himself to the world. Zuckerberg's next challenge is to entice Facebook members to make use of the feature. So he's tempting the inner divas of some members with the promise of fame.

"Using Facebook Live will allow our team to see applicants who can't make it to the existing auditions in person, said Kirsty Hunter, acting MD of Shotglass Media, which works on digital production for the X Factor. "It gives potential contestants a new way to be involved with the show using the latest technology from one of the most popular social media platforms."

If you want to take part in this year's X Factor auditions through Facebook Live, you have until midnight on 27 May to register for a slot. The auditions will take place on 29 May.
