True Detective is unmistakeably an HBO program, with many of the studios hallmarks: gritty realism, a killer story, fascinating interpersonal relationships — and a really long opening credits sequence. Set to The Handsome Family's "Far from Any Road", it goes for a full minute and a half.

That's plenty of time for, say, an enterprising YouTuber to play around with a mash-up. And what is more appropriate than DC's arguably darkest superhero, a man known for decades as "the world's greatest detective"?

This is exactly what Sydney-based filmmaker and Batman fan Josh Newman has done. "I made this for the fun of it, and also because I thought of that title and just couldn't not do anything with it," he wrote on YouTube.

The video itself was made with AfterEffects after Newman watched a couple of Mikey Borup's tutorial videos, along with found images altered to match the visual style of the show's opening credits.
