Channel Nine and SBS have been granted licences for 3D TV trial broadcasts for the period of the FIFA World Cup and the rugby league State of Origin.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has granted the two television networks and its affiliates "scientific" trial licences for broadcasting in high definition 3D. Cities covered by the trial are Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Newcastle and Wollongong.
The trials will run between 19 May and 19 July of 2010, neatly covering the FIFA World Cup and the three State of Origin matches (26 May, 16 June and 7 July).
According to TV Tonight, Senator Stephen Conroy, the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, will appear on SBS' The World Game (5pm Sunday 16 May) to discuss the network's 3D World Cup broadcasts.
25 matches across five stadiums will be filmed in 3D, including Australia's first match against Germany on 13 June (14 June AEST). A full list of World Cup matches being filmed in 3D can be found on our sister site CNET.co.uk.
