Wonderful wide screen: Dell's 30-inch monitor

CNET staff
We predicted some big LCD monitors would debut at CES, and Dell proved us right by announcing the 30-inch wide-screen UltraSharp 3007WFP. This gigantic monitor tops Dell's largest previous LCD, the 24-inch wide-screen UltraSharp 2405FPW. The 3007WFP is available immediately for $2,199.

With its 2,560x1,600 native resolution, this monitor requires a top-of-the line graphics card, and you'll need a big desk, too, though for the amount of screen real estate it provides, this monitor is surprisingly light, only 25 pounds.

And, though monitors with large screens usually have a slower response time, Dell rates the 3007WFP at 11 milliseconds (gray to gray), which should be enough to keep the screen from showing much ghosting or streaking.

We're slightly disappointed that the 3007WFP lacks video inputs, though it does offer USB ports and memory card readers. Also, the only adjustability option is brightness; all other settings are fixed. We're impressed with the monitor's flexibility; it offers about 5 inches of height adjustment, and it swivels side to side and tilts back and forth.

We'll have a full review of the Dell UltraSharp 3007WFP up on CNET in the coming week.
