Woman chooses to be shot, rather than give up Samsung phone
A Houston woman refused to hand over her Galaxy phone during a mugging and was grazed by a bullet.
No one knows for certain how they'd react if confronted with an armed robber.
One Harris County, TX. woman, however, decided that she'd take the chance of being shot rather than hand over her Samsung Galaxy phone.
It's not a decision everyone would have made. However, this woman -- who only gave KHOU-TV the name Courtney -- explained she was accosted outside her friend's house as she was returning from a dumpster.
She said: "He was like, hey, let me get that phone. I was like, I'm not giving you my phone sir. He's like, I'm going to shoot you, so I put my hands up."
She says she crouched down and prepared to be shot. Could a phone really be worth this risk?
She explained: "I looked down the barrel and was like no please don't shoot me." He shot her. Luckily, the bullet grazed her head, rather than doing more serious damage.
Her friend heard the shot and opened the door. Courtney managed to get inside before the robber could follow her.
She was taken to hospital, where doctors stapled her wound.
"I almost lost my life on a $700 phone," she said. "I don't get it."
There will be those who don't get why she didn't hand over the phone. Phone theft is said by many police forces to be one of the most prevalent crimes they have to deal with.
After Apple introduced the Activation Lock, Samsung phones were said to have become more popular targets for thefts.
In this case, however, Courtney kept her phone and believes she did the right thing. How many people would have done the same?
