Wireless gear maker nets $38 million
Tahoe Networks, a company founded in January, announced Tuesday that it pulled in $38 million of funding in a first round led by Redpoint Ventures and Accel Partners. The company makes equipment that enhances the delivery of mobile data services by using IP (Internet Protocol) instead of the technology used to carry voice signals. Co-founders Anthony Alles and Arthur Lin will serve as the company's CEO and CTO, respectively. The two men also founded Shasta Networks, which was bought by Nortel Networks in April 1999 for $340 million. Tahoe employs about 50 people and maintains offices in San Jose, Calif., and Tampere, Finland. The company expects to make its first product announcement in the first half of 2002. See complete list.
