Chalk this one up as a shameless plug, but I do think it's blogworthy. Got a note this morning from my former high-school roommate, Steve Glenn, the founder of Living Homes, a company that builds really "green" prefab modern homes. He got Wired Magazine to promote the installation of a new $4 million home that Living Homes is putting up in Los Angeles, today. And by today, I mean right now, in real time, you can watch the thing going up.
Steve writes:
"It is with great pride that we announce the installation of the WIRED LivingHome. This Wednesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. PST, we'll be assembling the 4,200-square-foot home out of 11 modules. You'll be able to watch the action live at http://livinghomes.gen-host.net/lh/lh/camera1.htm and http://livinghomes.gen-host.net/lh/lh/camera2.htm, and we'll have a time-lapse of the entire process next week. The WIRED LivingHome, designed by Ray Kappe, FAIA and created for LEED Gold compliance, is a showcase for environmental and living technologies. It will be available for public tours and events in late October and November."
OK, so as far as events go, it may not be Steve Jobs waxing poetic at an Apple iFest, telling iPhone owners that they should feel good about being suckers for buying an iPhone for $600 a couple months ago when they can get one today for $399--but it's still pretty cool to watch an entire house get built in a few days.
