Windows Phone version of Samsung Galaxy S3 coming?
The specs and design of the upcoming S3 could also be used for Samsung's first Windows Phone 8 device, according to rumours.
Just days before the Galaxy S3 is officially unveiled comes word that the Android device will be making the jump to Windows Phone soon.
According to Windows Phone Life, Samsung will use the Galaxy S3 as the basis for its first Windows Phone 8 device. So while the phone will have the same design and specs as the S3, it'll be dubbed the Samsung Focus S2. Sounds a bit like a car to me, but still, if it's anywhere near as good as the S3 promises to be, it should be a great handset.
A source says that because of the changes to the Windows Phone 8 OS, Samsung will be able to use the S3's faster processor, bigger and higher resolution screen, as well as LTE (although that last one's not much use to us Brits). Because of the new Windows Phone OS, swapping the specs into a Windows device should be "easy as pie" according to the source.
The specs the source revealed include a 4.7-inch HD screen, 12-megapixel camera, NFC, a dedicated camera button, and support for Samsung's cloud storage service and LTE. These do differ though from the manual that leaked earlier this week (8-megapixel camera and 4.8-inch screen, among the differences). I suppose we'll have to wait until Wednesday's official reveal to see just how much this source actually knows.
The Focus S2 is expected this October, according to the source. Another Samsung phone, the Focus S is pretty much a ported Galaxy S2, so it wouldn't be that surprising to see the S3 being used as the basis for a Windows Phone handset. And it's generated enough buzz on the web, so it would make sense to capitalise.
