Windows 8 brings great deals on Windows 7 laptops

With Windows 8 nearly upon us, the time is perfect to snag a great bargain on a Windows 7 laptop.

With Windows 8 just around the corner, it's a great time to snag yourself a bargain on a Windows 7 laptop.

I've found some great offers from our favourite online retailers who want to sell off the older hardware on the cheap. They might not pack the touchscreens or tablet-like design of the Windows 8-specific machines, but they offer a lot of bang for a very reasonable buck.

Below are some of my top picks, but there are plenty more out there. Have a scout around for the best prices and make sure to check our extensive laptop reviews to see what's best for you.

Samsung Series 3 3530EA -- £300 (Save £200)

This 15.6-inch model packs a burly Intel Core i5 processor and a generous 6GB of RAM. That should be plenty of power for web browsing, playing high definition video and editing your embarrassing holiday snaps. At only £300 it's a steal if you want a desktop replacement machine.

HP Pavilion DV6 -- £400 (Save £400)

The DV6 packs in an Intel Core i3 processor, 4GB of RAM and a dedicated Nvidia GeForce graphics card. If you fancy tackling games like Team Fortress 2 when you're not busy working then it's worth checking out.

Asus N56VM -- £450 (Save £450)

The Asus N56VM provides some powerful components wrapped up in an attractive shell. It also offers an external mini sub-woofer to add a bit more of a kick to your music and videos.

Acer Aspire S3 -- £470 (Save £480)

If travelling light is high on your list of priorities then look to the ultrabook category. This recent breed of laptop promises impressive performance from a super-skinny body.

The 13.3-inch Aspire S3 crams the latest Ivy Bridge Intel Core i5 processor and 4GB of RAM into a chassis measuring only 17mm thick.

Asus Zenbook UX32 -- £530 (Save £520)

With a chassis machined out of a single piece of aluminium, the Asus Zenbook is not only super-strong but looks great too. There's an Intel Core i5 processor under the hood to tackle the more demanding day to day tasks and three USB 3.0 ports for super-speedy data transfer.
