What if 'Stranger Things' was an '80s sitcom?
The hit Netflix show has been given the remix treatment, based on the popular TV shows of the 1980s.
Netflix's "Stranger Things" is a love letter to the 1980s -- or more specifically, Steven Spielberg, Stephen King, John Carpenter, Wes Craven and other creators of supernatural stories featuring children facing horrific situations with aplomb and ingenuity. This glorious mashup by creator Tim Bennett turns to a different source of 1980s inspiration, sitcoms.
It's set to "Strange Things" by Randy Newman, which is slightly cheating since it's from the 1995 "Toy Story" soundtrack, but it fits perfectly. "I got the idea because my kids were listening to Toy Story songs last week. Turns out there's an instrumental version of 'Strange Things', who knew?" Bennett wrote in a post on Reddit.
"My main inspiration was "Who's The Boss?" but for obvious reasons I couldn't do it in the actual '80s style, which basically encapsulates the show's plot for casual viewers."
Nevertheless, it all works together startlingly well. Now someone do it with Jim Henson fantasy films.
