Our Weekly Utilities Update report is a list of all the updates for many Mac utilities that have been released in the past week. Though utilities can be any tool that helps you perform a routine task (including image manipulation and synchronization), our focus in this column is to bring you those tools that help in troubleshooting Mac hardware and software problems. There are updates for file management and network monitoring utilities, as well as a couple of maintenance utilities.

File Management

GrandPerspective 1.3.3 (Free!) has been updated to fix a few memory leaks and crashes. It also increases logging to help tackle some crashes other users have been experiencing. Carbon Copy Cloner 3.3.3b1 ($10.00) also has been updated, to fix bugs with crashes and other errors with task scheduling, so if you have been using the program for regularly maintaing backups and clones, you might consider this update.

Lastly, R-Studio has released a new build of R-Studio Data Recovery ($79.99), which is built to recover files on HFX, FAT, NTFS, UFS, and Ext2/3 volumes.

Networking

For networking utilities, the network monitoring front-end "PacketStream 3.3" ($24.95) has been updated to support AppleScript and OS X's system services, allowing information to be ported to it from other applications, as well as keychain password support. A new build of IPNetMonitorX 2.6c1 ($60.00) adds small enhancements to email notification and increases logging, in addition to implementing stealth mode port scans in Snow Leopard.

Monitoring and Maintenance

The small menu extra "iStat Menus 3.02" ($10.00) has been updated with a few interface enhancements, but also fixes some crashes, errors with the clock format editor, and incorrect values being displayed after application relaunch. In addition, some localization fixes have been implemented.

The only maintenance applications updated this week are OnyX 2.1.5b3 (Free!) and MainMenu 2.1.1 ($19.00). The latest build of OnyX is a beta for the upcoming 2.1.5 release, which improves the routines for removing internet and user caches, as well as other temporary items. In addition, a few UI tweaks have been added to the program.
