Following are some of the notable tech-related events scheduled for the week of Oct. 12.

Earnings season is kicking into high gear in the coming week, with Apple Computer, Intel and Motorola all reporting their quarterly financial results.

Several notable conferences are also on tap. These include the annual Microprocessor Forum, to be held in San Jose, Calif., and ITU Telecom World in Geneva, which will feature Cisco System's CEO, John Chambers.

    • Apple makes computers. It is expected to report a fourth-quarter profit of 7 cents a share.

  • Cadence Design Systems develops tools to design semiconductor chips and computer systems. It is expected to report a third-quarter profit of 12 cents a share.
  • E-Trade is an online brokerage. It is expected to report a third-quarter profit of 16 cents a share.
  • Siebel Systems develops enterprise applications. It is expected to report a third-quarter profit of 3 cents a share.
  • Transmeta makes semiconductor chips. It is expected to report a third-quarter loss of 13 cents a share.

    • Retail Sales measures total receipts from U.S. stores. Growth for September is expected to drop to 0.2 percent, from 0.6 percent the previous month. Excluding auto sales, growth is expected to decline to 0.4 percent from 0.7 percent.

    Thursday, Oct. 16

    • Consumer Price Index is one of most significant measures of inflation, monitoring the decline or fall of the price of a fixed basket of consumer goods and services. September growth is expected to hold steady at 0.3 percent.

    Friday, Oct. 17

    • Housing Starts is the total of new home construction projects. The September number is expected to grow to 1.83 million, from 1.82 million the previous month.
