Walmart's response to Amazon Prime Day? Free shipping and discounted electronics

The mega retailer says its website will give customers free shipping with no minimum purchase July 11-15. It's also offering discounts on TVs, phones, game consoles and other electronics.

Walmart will offer free shipping on its website this week along with discounts on electronics in an apparent bid to compete with tomorrow's Amazon Prime Day.

The mega-retailer announced Monday that will ship items for free without a minimum purchase. It will also offer discounts on electronics, including Samsung's 55-inch 4K Ultra HDTV for $598 (was $1,199), the Apple iPhone 5S 16GB Straight Talk Prepaid Smartphone for $149 (was $450) and the Xbox One Console 500 GB Gears of War bundle with wireless controller and Minecraft for $279 (was $355).

Amazon will launch its second annual Prime Day on Tuesday. This sale promises extra savings on items that Prime members order from the website. The online retailer didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
