VoiceStream Wireless gets an EDGE
VoiceStream Wireless is buying more than $300 million in cell phone network equipment gear from Nokia, the two companies announced Tuesday. Nokia will supply VoiceStream with base stations, a crucial element of a cellular network, that uses a next-generation phone standard called EDGE (enhanced data rates for GSM environments). The three-year agreement will help Voicestream expand its high-speed network into areas including Ohio and Arkansas, according to VoiceStream. The company said deliveries of the equipment are to begin immediately.
