Vodafone will be partnering with fibre internet infrastructure provider CityFibre to bring gigabit fibre connections to 5 million UK homes and businesses by 2025.
Work on connecting the first million will begin in 2018, and is due to be completed by 2021. A further four million will then be added.
The infrastructure uses fibre connections right from the home to the internet (known as FTTP or Fibre To The Premises). It helps achieve speeds of up to 1,000mbps -- much faster than what is currently available with existing services.
Neither party has yet announced what areas will gain the ultrafast fibre first, but more information is expected in the coming months. CityFibre is responsible for building the network while Vodafone's additional funding secures its exclusivity for the first stage of the rollout. So if you want to be one of the first to use the fast network, you'll need to get it through Vodafone.
