Vizio has announced two new Wi-Fi speakers for its SmartCast range -- which also incorporates televisions -- and is based on the Google Cast platform.
The Vizio SmartCast Crave 360 ($250) is a portable speaker which works in a similar fashion to the Samsung Radiant360 by radiating sound evenly around it. The Vizio features an onboard battery and the company says it is capable of 8 hours of playback on a single charge.
Meanwhile the Vizio SmartCast Crave Pro ($300) which is a large stereo speaker, which incorporates dual integrated subwoofers. The company claims the speaker is capable of reaching as low as 40Hz.
Both speakers can be controlled with the Vizio SmartCast app which is also used the company's televisions. In addition customers can use Google Cast which is a multi-room system compatible with products from Sony, LG, Google and Raumfeld. Google Cast is designed to enable users to group products together using the Streamcast app and "cast" to them from compatible apps for Android or iOS, and in the Chrome browser. Google Cast enables Wi-Fi streaming from your phone, your network or from dozens of streaming apps.
For less permanent connections, such as for times when you have people visiting, both speakers will also work with Bluetooth.
Cosmetically the speakers look a lot more expensive than they are with a satin aluminum surface and an elegant "glass touch" surface which is used for controlling playback and volume.
The Crave 360 is available now while the Crave Pro is listed as coming soon.
