Visa U.S.A. has made another small step forward in its effort to spur the adoption of "smart cards." National Processing Company, which processes credit card transactions, will install smart-card readers in its employee cafeteria, Visa said. Smart cards are credit cards that have a built-in chip that allows for sophisticated features such as the tracking of purchases to award coupons and foster customer loyalty.
In addition, NPC and similar company Vital Processing Services are now able to accept transactions from the smart-card chip.
