Move over Tiger Woods - Vijay Singh has just been signed up by games publisher Ubisoft to be the face for a new golf title. The new game will be Ubisoft's first entry into the hotly contested sports videogame market, which has been dominated by publisher Electronic Arts. Singh, currently ranked the world's No1 golfer, has been signed up for a Vijay Singh-titled golf game. Ubisoft has also acquired the team sports assets from Microsoft Game Studios. While he has been consistently ranked among the Top 10 players internationally, in 2004, Singh became the first golfer to dethrone Tiger Woods' No.1 stronghold on the game since 1998, with 9 victories including his win at the PGA Championship in August 2004. Off to a great start in 2005, Singh began the year by winning the Sony Open in Hawaii. Ubisoft's acquisition of the Microsoft Game Studios team sports games means it also has access to titles such as NHL Rivals (hockey), NFL Fever (American football), NBA Inside Drive (basketball) and MLB Inside Pitch (baseball).  Ubisoft plans to develop games for all platforms and will initially concentrate on consoles, including Xbox and next-generation.
