Virtual reality: It's not just for gaming. Really (The 3:59, Ep. 65)

We look at what people really do with VR and make fun of Tronc's vision of journalism.

If you're talking about virtual reality today, you're likely talking about video games.

But if you ask a regular person, gaming doesn't even crack the top three in possible categories. Instead, areas such as travel, movies and live events spur more interest. That contrasts with the sheer amount of attention and resources poured into virtual reality -- most of which is dedicated to gaming.

We discuss how gaming, and even porn, have served as the initial hooks for new technology.

We also couldn't resist poking fun at Tronc (formerly Tribune Publishing), which released a video about the future of journalism that made waves online for its Onion-like feel.

The 3:59 gives you bite-size news and analysis about the top stories of the day, brought to you by CNET Executive Editor Roger Cheng, Senior Writer Ben Fox Rubin and Producer Bryan VanGelder.
