Virgin America's new app plays a curated Spotify soundtrack while you travel

The airline is finally coming out with a mobile app, which features all the usual things along with one that's a little unusual -- tunes for your trip.

Virgin America's app for iOS and Android is set for release later this summer.

It's been a long time coming, but Virgin America is finally coming out with a smartphone app.

The app, set to launch later this summer, enables you to book flights, check alerts and access mobile boarding passes. It can also soundtrack your trip with curated Spotify playlists designed to boost your mood while you travel.

The app was designed by the same team that relaunched the Virgin America website earlier this year.

The beta version of the app is still being tested by some of the airline's frequent fliers. You can sign up here to test it out before the official launch.
