has added a dose of Web services to its software. The company, which competes against Broadvision, ATG and others, makes software that lets companies such as media news outlets and financial institutions manage their Web content. Vignette announced Tuesday that it is supporting Web services specifications, such as SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol), a communications protocol that allows businesses to link and conduct transactions.
Web services enable businesses or people to access software over the Internet on any device, such as a PC, handheld or cell phone. By making content available as a Web service, Vignette executives say they're making it easier and more efficient for companies to share information with their customers or business partners.
