Bloodhound SSC is a bona fide rocket car and Britain's latest attempt to break the world landspeed record. We got up close and personal with the jet-powered non-flier at the Gadget Show Live, where our own Rich Trenholm met Nick Chapman from the project's Web team.

Faster than a speeding bullet, the Bloodhound should be capable of more than 1,000mph, covering a mile in just over 3 seconds. Approaching the end of its design phase, the car's record attempt should be made next year. It's touring the country in the meantime, getting school children fired up about engineering.
