Start-up Vernier Networks shipped a new technology this week for securing and managing wireless networks. Vernier's technology--a combination of hardware and software--can authenticate and control access to information for computer users, letting companies install wireless networks, or LANs, without fear of security breaches.
The company also announced its first sale of technology to NTT Multimedia Communications Laboratories. Vernier said it is in continued tests with Handspring and the University of Washington. Vernier is the first spinoff from Packet Design, a company started by Judy Estrin, former Cisco systems chief technology officer and Silicon Valley veteran. Vernier was founded in March of this year.
