Verizon texting outage hits customers on East Coast
The carrier says the problem is fixed.

If you have Verizon service and your text messages weren't sending this morning, it wasn't just you.
Starting Tuesday at around 8:30 a.m. ET, many Verizon customers in the eastern US experienced an outage affecting their text messages. Verizon confirmed the outage in a number of tweets, saying that the problem affected "a ton of customers" and that its technicians were working to resolve the issue.
By shortly after 10 a.m. ET, the outage was over.
"We experienced an issue impacting texting services for some customers this morning. Our engineers were able to identify and resolve the issue quickly," said David Weissmann, a spokesman for Verizon, in an email statement. "Service is now fully restored."
The outage seemed primarily to have affected customers east of the Mississippi River, according to Down Detector's website.
Customers tweeted that they couldn't text people this morning, but people weren't reporting any problems with calls or data usage.
