Verizon Wireless on Tuesday announced that its next smartphone, the HTC Desire 612, will grace its network later this week. The entry-level handset is a variation of the Desire 610 and is akin to an HTC take on the Moto G LTE .

Powered by Android 4.4 KitKat, the Desire 612 features a 4.7-inch HD display, an 8-megapixel rear camera and 8GB of internal storage. Other specifications include a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, a microSD expansion card slot and a 2,040mAh battery. As a bonus, this Desire is equipped for Big Red's growing XLTE network, which means faster data speeds.

Housed in a plastic shell, the Desire 612 does carry over some of the details found in the flagship HTC One M8 . Present here are dual front-facing speakers (BoomSound) and BlinkFeed, a personalized news feed delivered on the home screen.

Verizon will offer the HTC Desire 612 on October 9 for free with a two-year service agreement. Verizon Edge equipment installment plans will be available, but pricing is not yet clear.
