VeriSign buys 3united Mobile Solutions
The $65 million acquisition of a mobile application services company is intended to help expand its communications offering in Europe.
The company, whose services include securing data and voice networks, obtained 3united Mobile Solutions for about $65.5 million. Vienna, Austria-based 3united helps businesses take advantage of mobile technologies and wireless networks. The acquisition is intended to help expand VeriSign's communications offering in Europe.
Mountain View, Calif.-based VeriSign also introduced a new online identity protection program and announced that its first two customers were Yahoo and eBay.
The VeriSign Identity Protection (VIP) suite enables consumers to use a single security device to authenticate themselves across any VIP Web site, the company said in a statement. VIP is intended to make it cheaper and easier for financial services or e-commerce companies to strengthen authentication by sharing an infrastructure, VeriSign said in a statement.
VeriSign also launched its own Global System for Mobile Communication settlement and exchange service, designed to make it easier for cell-phone carriers to track and support noncustomer roamers and facilitate payment from roaming partners.
VeriSign shares rose 24 cents, or 1 percent, to close Monday on Nasdaq at $23.94.
