Using 100 MB disks in a Zip250

Using 100 MB disks in a Zip250

While the Zip250 is basically compatible with 100MB Zip disks, John Kass notes the following limitations (most of which come from Iomega's own documentation):
  • In the Iomega owner's manual, it says that write times to 100MB disks can be up to 10 times longer.
  • That there is no guarantee that a 100MB disk written to in a Zip250 drive will be able to be read by a Zip100 drive. The manual reads: "If you write information to a 100MB Zip disk using a 250MB Zip drive, and later find that the disk cannot be read by a 100MB Zip drive, try reading the disk again using your 250MB Zip drive."
  • You cannot long format a 100MB Zip disk in Zip250 drive. Only short format is supported.
  • Getting the drive to boot from a 100MB disk is a bit tricky. The manual actually recommends moving all your information from 100MB disks to 250MB disks and using only 250MB disks in your drive to 'optimize performance.'
