Unisys in service pact with Gateway
Unisys technicians will do repairs on Gateway corporate computers, part of a growing emphasis on services for Unisys.
Under the alliance, when Gateway customers need repairs on their desktop or server computers, Unisys technicians will handle the task.
It's another big service deal for Unisys, a $7 billion provider of computer hardware and systems, which is relying increasingly on its services unit to drive revenues. For fiscal year 1998, the company is expected to derive nearly half of its revenues from services and consulting, analysts said.
Last month, Unisys signed a deal with Ascend Communications to provide on-site service for Ascend's networking gear. In May, Unisys signed a similar deal with Dell Computer. (See related story.)
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
