While most other computing companies are doing their best to branch out from the sagging PC business, scanner maker Umax is moving in the other direction. The company will announce at next week's Tech X NY trade show (formerly PC Expo) that it is re-entering the PC business with a line of high-performance PCs optimized for photo editing, publishing and other graphics-related work, according to a statement.
Umax was one of a handful of companies making Macintosh clones in the 1990s, but the company left the computer business in 1998 when Apple yanked its licensing arrangement.
