Ubisoft, Sony Pictures confirm Watch Dogs movie
Sony Pictures is working on a movie based on the upcoming Ubisoft game. Sadly, it's unlikely to be called Must Love Watch Dogs.
Sony Pictures has announced that it's working on a film adaptation of Watch Dogs, even though the game itself hasn't been released yet.
This is the third Ubisoft title recently tipped to make the transition to the silver screen, with both an Assassin's Creed film and a Splinter Cell movie in the works.
The news was dropped at Sony's Gamescom press conference. Hannah Minghella, president of production for the Sony-owned Columbia Pictures, told Variety:
The themes and open gameplay of Watch Dogs lends itself perfectly to the big screen. The game has intense action and adventure, but the story focuses on information and the control of information, which we think will lead to an exciting thriller. It has tremendous potential as a motion picture, and we're thrilled to have the opportunity to work closely with Ubisoft's internal creative team on the development of the project.
Production house New Regency will work on the film. It's title credits include The Internship, Broken City, Marmaduke and the Alvin and the Chipmunks series.
Other Ubisoft properties that are expected to become films include Far Cry and Rabbids. There is actually already a Far Cry movie, made by the infamous Uwe Boll, and we both assume and hope the new Far Cry will have no relation to it.
