Uber might soon face a wrongful-death lawsuit as the result of an accident in San Francisco on New Year's Eve.

The family of the victim, a 6-year-old child walking in a crosswalk, plans to file a wrongful-death lawsuit against the car-service company on Monday, The New York Times reported Sunday.

Uber confirmed earlier this month that one of its "partners" was allegedly involved in an accident that saw the driver hit a family walking in a crosswalk in San Francisco on New Year's Eve. The company said at the time that it deactivated the driver's Uber account and made clear that the driver "was not providing services on the Uber system during the time of the accident."

The New York Times obtained an early copy of the lawsuit over the weekend. According to that document, the victim's family is seeking damages and a demand for trial by jury. Uber is facing nine complaints, including wrongful death, negligence, and infliction of emotional distress. The report doesn't say how much cash the plaintiffs are seeking.

CNET contacted Uber for a statement on the matter. The company pointed CNET to its earlier blog post expressing condolences to the victim's family. CNET has also contacted the attorney for the victim's family for a statement on the lawsuit. We will update this story when we have more information.
