Continuing its quick expansion into India, Uber said Monday it brought its car-for-hire service to four more cities in the country, making India its second-largest market outside the US in terms of number of cities.

The company, which connects private drivers to customers through its mobile app, added Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Jaipur, and Kolkata as its new cities and now operates in 10 total cities in India. It started service in the country less than a year ago.

Uber, which was founded in 2009, offers its service in 44 countries and over 150 cities, according to its website. It has been looking to grow throughout Asia. Uber competes with Lyft and Gett in the rapidly growing car-sharing app market, but has faced several bumps along the way as some taxi services and governments have protested Uber's presence in their cities.

Last week, Berlin banned Uber from operating there, with government officials citing concerns for passenger safety. That ban comes as Spain is considering legislation to outlaw for-profit private transportation like Uber and as London's black cab service took Uber to court.
