The U.K.'s Office of Telecommunications announced Thursday that there are now more than 500,000 home broadband users in the United Kingdom, as first reported on ZDNet U.K. last week. More than 20,000 people are signing up for broadband each week. The U.K. telecom regulator said the growing number of broadband users is an important step on the road to creating its vision of a "Broadband Britain."
According to the latest figures from broadband providers such as BT, NTL, Telewest Broadband and Kingston Communications, there are at least 539,000 broadband end users in the United Kingdom.
ZDNet U.K.'s Graeme Wearden reported from London.
