Twitter has partnered with London's transport authority to live tweet delay updates to Tube passengers.
Automatic alerts about severe delays on key Underground and rail routes will begin immediately, Transport for London announced on Thursday. Passengers who follow any combination of four specific TfL Twitter accounts -- London Overground, TfL Rail, Central Line and District Line -- can choose to opt-in to receive the alerts.
Many Londoners already use TfL Twitter accounts to get the latest up-to-the-minute information about the running status of their routes, but this is the first time Twitter has ever partnered with a transport authority to proactively provide those details.
"Millions of Londoners use apps powered by our free open data, alongside our website, to check the Tube, find a bus or see how the roads are running and this world-first partnership with Twitter is a fantastic way of ensuring our data helps keep our customers informed," said Phil Young, head of online at TfL.
