Twitter's #Music app has broadened its horizons for the first time, launching on the on-demand music streaming service Spotify.
Like the iOS app, Twitter #Music for Spotify provides a way for you to discover songs through artists and songs trending on Twitter. The Spotify version lets you discover music within Spotify's catalog and take advantage of Spotify features like artist playlists and release alerts. It categorizes trending artists into options like "superstars," "popular" and "hunted" -- as well as traditional categories of music like "country" and "hip hop" -- which can be added to a Spotify playlist.
The app is available to paying and nonpaying subscribers alike.
The expansion to Spotify is the first time #Music has stretched its wings beyond its iOS and web launch in April.
Twitter has been aggressive in tightening its ties to the entertainment world. This summer, Twitter started letting TV advertisers target ads to its users, and last month it acquired Trendrr, a social media analytics company that focuses on television and serves big brands like ABC, MTV, Telemundo, and Univision.
