Based on information from Symantec's John Harrison (as well as several MacFixIt readers), here is some updated information concerning compatibility problems posted on the Troubleshooting Mac OS 8 page:

a. Suitcase 3.0.2 patch available Symantec has posted Suitcase 3.0.2. According to Symantec: "The patch resolves a conflict with Mac OS 8 and AppleShare 3.7 where adding or using fonts on a network volume would return a -50 error. This is the only known compatibility issue with Mac OS 8 and only users accessing fonts via a network volume need download the patch." Indeed, most readers are reporting that Suitcase works fine for them.

b. Norton Disk Doctor 3.5.1 and -192 errors on install Symantec writes: "Users can receive a -192 error, when installing Norton Utilities 3.5.1 Update, for several different reasons:
1. If the version of NDD on the drive has been corrupted.
2. If there is an extension conflict with the patcher.
3. If they installed via floppy disks.
To resolve these issues we recommend reinstalling from the original CD-ROM and then disabling all extensions prior to using the patch. We are currently working on resolving this issue with installation via floppy disks, but at this time nothing is available via our FTP site."

Several reader claim to get the -192 error even after following the above advice.

Norton Disk Doctor 3.5 patch? Interestingly, one reader sent me a copy of a Norton Disk Doctor 3.5 patch which he claims fixes NDD 3.5 so that it can be successfully updated to 3.5.1. I have not yet tried it because I have not yet had time to get the 3.5.1 update. However, Symantec claims to have no knowledge of this patch. I am investigating this further.
