Troubleshooting iTunes: Internet radio streams failing

CNET staff

MacFixIt reader Jonathan Gulliver pointed us to a thread in the MacFixIt forums describing a relatively widespread problem with iTunes' streaming radio broadcasts, cropping up over the past few days.

For some users, iTunes delivers the message "An error occurred while contacting the radio tuning service. Check your internet connection or try again late," and seems to affect various types of Internet connections.

One suggested solution is to open System preferences, go to the Network pane, then the TCP/IP Tab and enter some new DNS numbers in the DNS Server list. The addresses are: 17.112.144.50 and 17.112.144.59

Poster Ockham writes "However, one note of caution: If you have not previously entered a DNS Server address from your ISP, after entering these addresses from Apple you may be unable to do anything else that requires resolving an internet address. So make sure you have at least one ISP assigned DNS address before adding these. And make sure the Apple ones are added after your ISP's. If you do not know what your ISP DNS address may be, try 4.2.2.1 which is a generic one from Level 3."
