Troubleshooting iSync 1.4: More on Palm synching problems

CNET staff

We continue to receive reports of newfound inability to synchronize a number of Palm handhelds after updating to iSync 1.4.

One user writes "I'm trying to sync my Palm Zire with iSync 1.4, Conduit 1.2, and OS X 10.3.2 on my dual USB 800 MHz iBook. Everything was fine with iSync 1.3, but when I try to sync with iSync 1.4, I get the following message: Unexpected Error [-1]."

Oddly, Mark Nandor reports that temporarily turning off the built-in Mac OS X firewall allowed successful synchronization: "I turned off the Apple's firewall in the Preferences, and then hotsync worked fine. Even after turning the firewall back on, the whole setup is syncing fine. Who would have guessed?"

Meanwhile Allan Trautman writes "My first attempt to synchronize after the iSync 1.4 update also failed, but I tried it again immediately, and it worked fine."

Note that Palm has documented a number of issues with Mac OS X 10.3.x, including:

  • Unreliable HotSync operations when "Fast User Switching" is enabled on the Macintosh (Mac OS X 10.3).
  • Palm Desktop "Unexpectedly Quits" after selecting the 'Quit' command from the File menu.
  • Send to Handheld application, version 1.0, does not work with Mac OS X 10.3.2
