Trendnet is on tri-band, quad-stream trend with two new routers
Trendnet's new TEW-828DRU and TEW-827DRU will deliver up to 3,200Mbps and 2,600Mbps of Wi-Fi bandwidth, respectively.
LAS VEGAS -- The crowd of tri-band and quad-stream routers just got a bit more crowded as Trendnet announced today two new additions of its own: the AC3200 Tri BandWireless Router (model TEW-828DRU) and the AC2600 DualBand Wireless Router (TEW-827DRU).
As a tri-band router, the TEW-828DRU comes with one 2.4GHz band that tops out at 600Mbps and two 5GHz bands that cap at 1,300Mbps each. Trendnet says this new router is the answer to the Netgear R8000 or the Linksys EA9200.

According to Trendnet, the TEW-828DRU sports six high-performance external antennas, all Gigabit network ports (one WAN and four LANs), one USB 3.0 port and one USB 2.0 port to host storage devices or printers. On top of that it has six Wi-Fi amplifiers to maximize Wi-Fi signal output and targeted Beamforming technology that directs stronger wireless signals to each connected device'’s specific location.

The TEW-827DRU is a dual-band router, but it supports the quad-stream setup of the 802.11ac Wi-Fi standard. Unlike other quad-stream routers, which use Quantenna Wi-Fi chips, this new router packs the Qualcomm MU/EFX platform -- that means on the 5GHz band, it has a top Wi-Fi speed of up to 1,733Mbps and on the 2.4GHz, up to 800Mbps.
Trendnet says the TEW-827DRU sports four high-performance dual-band external detachable antennas, all Gigabit network ports, and two SuperSpeed USB 3.0 to. It also has Wi-Fi amplifiers and the targeted Beamforming technology. On top of that, when hosting an external hard drive, it supports Samba clients, can work as an iTunes music server and also as a BitTorrent download client.
The AC3200 TEW-828DRU is set to ship later this month while the AC2600 TEW-827DRU will be available in May. Both routers come with a three-year warranty and are slated to cost $280 in the US. Expect the street price to be around $200, however. UK and Australian prices were not announced, but $280 converts to around £180 or AU$345.
