Ever wonder if and how many people are actually reading your tweets? A new feature in Twitter's iPhone app can drill down to the analytics of your Twitter posts.

Those of us who take the time to tweet about ourselves, our work and our companies naturally want to ensure that people are actually engaging with those tweets. That need is obviously even greater for companies and advertisers who have to know if they're reaching enough of their audience by tweeting about their products and services.

Twitter offers its own dedicated Tweet activity dashboard page where you can see this information at a glance. But now you can find some of the same details on each individual tweet via Twitter's iPhone app. Here's how:

  • If you haven't already done so, you first need to sign in to the Twitter analytics page with your account so the company can start collecting the mobile analytics data, says Ian Chan, a software engineering manager at Twitter, who announced the feature via a tweet. If you haven't yet used this page, you may need to wait a day or so before enough data is collected so that you can view it on the Twitter app.
  • Next, make sure you've upgraded your Twitter iPhone app to the latest version.
  • Open the app, and tap any tweet you've posted.
  • At the bottom of the tweet you'll see a link that says: "VIEW ANALYTICS DETAILS." Tap that link. In response, Twitter shows you the analytics for that specific tweet. Total impressions displays the number of times that people saw your tweet. Total engagements reveals the number of people who actually retweeted or favorited your tweet.
  • Scroll down further, and you'll see specific percentages for the engagement data. For example, Twitter shows you the total percentage and number of all users who retweeted your tweet, who favorited it, and who clicked on your profile picture or name.

For now, the mobile analytics data is available only on iOS devices. But Chan said that an Android version is in the works.

Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
