Acer Windows 7 laptops. The U505 and M505 offer 13.3 and 14 inches of feel estate* respectively.
Windows 7 hopes to take touch-based operating systemage to new heights, and companies are out to build on this. We've seen a 15-inch laptop from Acer thusfar, and even a.
Toshiba's new U505 Touch is part of its U500 series (duh!). It's got a 13.3-inch LCD touchscreen, a 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, up to 8GB of DDR2 RAM, a 500GB hard disk, 802.11n Wi-Fi, HDMI output, a built-in webcam, card reader and a DVD rewriter. It only uses Intel's integrated graphics chip though, so gaming is mostly out of the question.
The M505 is a slightly larger touchscreen laptop, with a 14-inch LED-backlit screen. All other specs and options are identical to the U505. And there's no dedicated graphics from Nvidia or ATI in this model either, so no gaming for you.
Both models will be available in the US by 1 November, starting at $950 (about £570) for the larger M505, and $1,050 (about £650) for the smaller U505. Yes, the smaller one costs more. We spoke to Toshiba this morning and it couldn't comment on whether these will make their way to the UK. We'll keep you posted.
*Feel estate! Thank you very much, we're here all week.
