What unites the people of Iceland, cat burglars and owl photographers? That's right -- their lives would all be made easier with a camcorder that could handle low lighting conditions. Enter the newly announced Toshiba Camileo SX range -- two 1080p Full HD camcorders that promise outstanding performance during those tricky twilight hours.
The SX900 (up there on the left) keeps things looking sharp when the light measures at only 3 lux, while the SX500 (over on the right) manages down to 4 lux. This low-level magic is produced by advanced sensors and higher quality optics.
Keeping the quality up even as the lighting dips isn't the only trick up their sleeves -- the SX900 boasts a 9x optical, 12x digital zoom, while the SX500 model offers slightly less impressive 5x optical, 12x digital zooming abilities.
A colour-chaser function will allow users to zero in on their subject and keep them in focus even if they're moving quickly -- perfect for capturing that barbecue-ruining moment when the family dog snaps and starts chasing your snotty nephew round the garden. Still-photography fans won't be left out -- the SX900 and SX500 both feature facial recognition, and are capable of tracking up to 12 faces at once.
We're happy to report both models feature HDMI ports and an HDMI cable included in the box, so you'll be able to get your shiny new camcorder hooked up to your TV with a minimum of fuss. As you can see from the images above, both camcorders come in a sultry black gloss, perfect for filming under the shadowy cloak of darkness.
Both the Camileo SX900 and SX500 will be available from July -- stay tuned for a full review.
