TI touts combo chip with VoIP, Wi-Fi

The chipmaker announces a chip that combines VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol) and Wi-Fi into a single chip.

Texas Instruments today announced a chip that combines VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol) and Wi-Fi into a single chip, which should lead to wireless handsets for home or office Internet phone networks. The chip is part of TI's OMAP family of handset communication chips. The chip will handle both voice traffic and e-mails. Ascom, which makes handsets in Europe for the business market, said it will adopt the chip.
