In the next few weeks, Texas Instruments (TXN) will ship a new line of low-priced Extensa notebook PCs that sport 12.1-inch LCD screens and 6X CD-ROM drives, sources told CNET.

The Extensa 605CD, one of the models in the new line, will show off a complete redesign of the current 500 Extensa series. The 605CD will come in a sleek, black case designed specifically to accommodate the new 12.1-inch LCD screens.

In contrast, the current Extensa models are gray, have a relatively bulky design, and don't offer an extra-large screen. The 605CD will also come with a built-in 6X CD-ROM drive, a 12.1-inch dual-scan LCD, 8MB of RAM, and a 120-MHz Pentium processor.

At least one retailer who is planning to add the new line to his inventory has set the price for the 605CD at $2,995.
