This is President Obama's most retweeted tweet ever

The outgoing US president caps his Twitter career with a line from his farewell address, and people like it.

In case this gets buried in all the historical facts and figures about President Barack Obama's eight years in office, we thought we'd highlight it for you: A tweet from Tuesday night echoing a line in Obama's farewell address is the most retweeted tweet to date for the @POTUS Twitter account, which will soon get handed over to President-elect Donald Trump.

"I'm asking you to believe -- not in my ability to create change, but in yours," reads the tweet, which had almost 600,000 retweets (and over 1 million "likes") at the time of this story's posting.

The end of Obama's farewell speech also echoed words from the outgoing president's campaign trail, "Yes we can. Yes we can. Yes we can."

The farewell tweet was even more popular than some other @POTUS favorites, Twitter told CNET in an email. It beat out tweets about gay marriage rights, the Ahmed Mohamed clock incident, Obama joining Twitter under his own account (6 years into his presidency), and the high cost of incarceration.
