TAIPEI -- Formartti's gold-plated jewel-encrusted iPhone cases don't come cheap. With a minimum price of 70,000 New Taiwan dollars -- that's around $2,270, £1,275 or AU$2,930 -- for the basic model, everyone will know just how loaded you are (though they may have some doubts about your taste).

The cases are made from either aluminum or stainless steel, using a CNC (computer numerical control) mill to cut out the pattern. Jewellers then carefully place either custom selected gems or Swarovski crystals on the case. Depending on the design, Formartti will also plate the case with 24-karat gold.

While it looks like a solid block of metal, these Formartti cases open up at the top with a cleverly hidden latch that blends in perfectly with the design. One open, you'll just need to slide in your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus in and you're all set to dazzle.

They're terribly gaudy, and the cases don't come cheap, so they're likely not something for most of us. But if you're really keen to splurge, you don't have to settle for the lowest-end model -- Formartti says the the price for the most expensive case in its lineup will cost an eye-watering 300,000 New Taiwan dollars, which converts to $9,700, £6,300 or AU$12,500.
