What's new on Amazon

On January 15, Amazon made 13 pilots available for its 2015 Pilot Season. Amazon uses a number of factors, including viewer feedback, to determine which shows will get the green light and earn a full season run.

This year, there are six shows geared toward kids and seven that aren't. Amazon's got some bankable talent backing its pilots, including Jason Lee in "Cocked," Ridley Scott as executive producer of "The Man in the High Castle," and SNL-alumna Rachel Dratch in "Salem Rogers: Model of the Year 1998."

Be aware that some of the mature shows are...a bit mature. Which means you can expect coarse language and some nudity. The kid shows obviously don't have any of that, so feel free to watch them wherever.

What's happening at Netflix?

The big story at Netflix is that BBC content such as the classic "Doctor Who" series, "Fawlty Towers," "Red Dwarf" and others may be disappearing on February 1, according to a report from Vulture. A visit to Netflix shows that some of these BBC titles indeed have their availability marked as until February 1, 2015. CNET reached out to Netflix for comment and was told, "Netflix does not comment on the status of negotiations." However, BestOfNetflix.com reports that the two sides are close to a deal.

As of January 16, however, here's a list of what's been renewed at Netflix -- meaning these titles are safe come February 1.

  • Allosaurus
  • The Blue Planet
  • The Buccaneers
  • Colosseum
  • Copper
  • David Attenborough: Wildlife Specials
  • Doctor Who (both the classic and 2005 series)

  • Keeping up Appearances
  • Luther
  • Monarch of the Glen
  • North & South
  • The Office (UK)
